This is the time of year to start planning and planting your garden, maybe visit a farmers market, and take a scenic stroll through your community. We encourage you to visit the Local History & Genealogy department in Covington in your quest for springtime fun; we have a number of fresh, new events on tap this spring that we hope you’ll enjoy!
Can’t make it out of the house this week? Join us on Periscope and we’ll take you with us as we explore Historic Linden Grove Cemetery on our tour Periscope: Hey, what’s that tree? We’ll have local guidebooks on hand to help us identify the fresh buds and leaves in bloom.
If you’re itching to get outside, put on your walking shoes and join us for a stroll through historic Covington. Coming up next month is our annual Historic Walking Tour, which happens every Wednesday morning this summer at 10AM, starting on May 3 and ending on September 27. We’ll talk about significant structures, their former residents, and events of times past on this one-hour jaunt down historic Pike Street in Covington.
If you find yourself bored on a rainy day, or perhaps avoiding spring pollen in the great outdoors, join us in the Local History & Genealogy department at the library instead!
Enjoy a display of older and antique dolls from the collection of Peggy Carson Lietzenmayer at our Keepsake Doll Display on Saturday, April 22 at 10:30AM. We’ll have reference materials available on doll collecting, and an expert on doll repair will be available for consultation. Feel free to bring in your own keepsake dolls to display and discuss! Co-sponsored by the Kenton County Historical Society.

Beginners and advanced researchers are welcome at Evening With the Ancestors!

Have you ever wanted to be locked in the Covington library at night? Here’s your opportunity! Join us for an evening of genealogical research and camaraderie with fellow researchers at *Evening with the Ancestors on Saturday, April 22 at 6PM. Work alone, or one-on-one with a staff member. Refreshments will be served. Registration is required and limited to 40 individuals.
Perhaps you are looking to utilize genealogy resources while on the go. We’ve got a program for that! We’ll be hosting *Pocket Genealogy the first Thursday each month throughout the summer, starting on Thursday, May 4 at 6PM, to give you the tech help you need in a brief one-hour workshop. Be sure to bring your own device or phone!
Looking for something a bit more edgy and macabre? We’ve got that too! Join us on Periscope (@KentonLibrary on Periscope on your smartphone or tablet, or at for Covington Lives Lost & Found on Friday, May 12 at 3:30PM. We will be roaming around Covington discussing a handful of the individuals mentioned in the Kenton County Coroner’s Records, and the stories surrounding their deaths.

Discover the mysteries of your house at our Is My House Haunted? Research Workshop!

Hearing bumps in the night, or curious about the stories surrounding your home? Perhaps you are on the hunt for a new home, or just purchased one, and want to know what your house has seen over the years. If so, this is the event for you! We’ll be hosting the *Is My House Haunted? Research Workshop on Thursday, May 25 at 6:30PM. Over the course of an hour, we’ll work through several databases and resources to help you get started researching your house.
